This nomination reflects the efforts of the local administration, youth organizations and municipal institutions to make Chisinau a more youth-friendly and accessible city.
Next steps in the competition
By June 17, 2025, finalist cities must submit detailed documentation, including a program of youth events and activities for 2028. On the basis of these submissions, an independent jury and panel of experts will provide recommendations to improve the applications.
The cities will then submit the final versions of their submissions by October 7, 2025, followed by the final interview and winner announcement ceremony in November.
What does the European Youth Capital title mean?
This title is awarded annually by the European Youth Forum to a city that demonstrates commitment to the development and support of young people through public policies, educational, cultural and social initiatives. The European Youth Capital city benefits from international visibility and becomes a hub for youth events across Europe.
What’s next for Chisinau?
The team at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre, together with youth organizations and under the aegis of the Chisinau City Hall, will work on a detailed plan of activities and policies for young people. This plan will form the basis of the city’s final candidacy and will contribute to increasing Chisinau’s chances of becoming European Youth Capital 2028.
The final decision will be announced in November 2025.
