We Read, We Listen, We Feel: Cărturești at the Museum Invites You to Two Days of Reading and Art in Chișinău
14 June 2025

On June 20 and 21, the Cărturești at the Museum bookstore in Chișinău (31 August 1989 Street, 121A), located within the National Museum of History of Moldova, will host an event dedicated to the book as a form of artistic expression, blending reading, sound, and dialogue. The event spans two days and is part of the NOMAD project—a mobile extension of the Sounds Like a Book (SLB) residency program. Participation is free.
June 20 (18:00–20:00):
The public is invited to a presentation of the SLB book collection. Exhibition curator Aliona Ciobanu will guide visitors through the SLB universe, explaining the concepts behind each volume. The selected works come from an international context and reflect a wide variety of styles and techniques developed during SLB residencies.
June 21 (starting at 14:00):
Visitors can take part in a Silent Reading Party, offering a quiet, personal space to reconnect with books at one’s own pace.
Sounds Like a Book (SLB) is a platform for creation and self-publishing, aimed at those interested in exploring the book as a medium of artistic expression. Since 2019, SLB has held four multidisciplinary editorial residencies in Șona, Romania, which have resulted in an international collection of artist books. Driven by the desire to activate and reimagine the archive, the project explores new ways to present and interact with artistic books and sound compositions, beyond traditional art spaces.
This event is organized by the SLB team, Aliona Ciobanu, and the Abstract-Press Association, in collaboration with Cărturești at the Museum. It offers young people in Moldova a chance to engage with one of the most innovative artistic publishing initiatives in Europe.
