ShakthiSAT: 12,000 girls from 108 countries will build a satellite to orbit the Moon. See how you can apply
26 February 2025

A groundbreaking project aims to change the future of space exploration by directly involving young girls around the world. ShakthiSAT, initiated by Space Kidz India, is an ambitious mission that will give 12,000 girls from 108 countries the opportunity to participate in building and launching a satellite into lunar orbit.
The project aims to select 108 talented girls from each of the 108 participating countries, giving them the opportunity to learn, collaborate and contribute directly to the development of a real satellite. In addition, one student from each country will have the chance to travel to India from December 2025 to January 2026 to participate in an intensive technology training program.
The ShakthiSAT mission also includes 108 ambassadors (Devis) from each country, who will play a key role in organizing and promoting the initiative at national level.
Why target girls?
Statistics show that only 20% of jobs in the aerospace industry are filled by women. Through this project, Space Kidz India aims to bridge this gap and give girls the opportunity to develop their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills.
“Every girl deserves to reach for the stars. The hands-on experiences will give them confidence, develop their analytical thinking and encourage them to become the science and technology leaders of the future,” say the organizers.
How will the mission unfold?
The project includes several milestones:
- March 3, 2025 – deadline for completing the application form
- March 18, 2025 – launch of the educational curriculum
- December 28, 2025 – January 18, 2026 – ambassadors and students from the 108 countries will gather in Chennai, India, for training and satellite construction
- March 2026 – testing the satellite and ground station configuration
- September 2026 – launch of the satellite, according to the schedule set by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)
What will participants learn?
- The workshops and trainings included in the program will cover topics such as:
- Applied mathematics and physics in aerospace engineering
- Construction of satellite structures and orbital mechanics
- Electronic engineering and PCB design
- Amateur radio and space communications
How to apply?
Fill out the registration form by March 3.
