On Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the “Mihai Eminescu” Hall of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova (Chisinau, 31 August 1989, 78A, 31 August Street), a festive event dedicated to the promotion of reading will take place on the occasion of the National Reading Day and the Day of Commemoration of the poet Grigore Vieru.

The event also marks the official opening of the ninth edition of the National LecturaCentral 2026, a program that focuses on reading as an essential pillar for the personal, cultural and civic development of young people and the community.

Event agenda:

  1. Opening messages from cultural and political leaders 11:00 – 11:30

The program will start with keynote addresses by prominent personalities, including:

Elena Pintilei, Director General of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova and President of ABRM;

Angela Munteanu-Pojoga, MP and author of the parliamentary initiative on the establishment of the National Reading Day;

Cristian Jardan, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova.

  1. Debates on reading in the age of artificial intelligence 11:30 – 12:30

The central moment of the day will be the debate session “Reading in the age of artificial intelligence: points of view”, with interventions by prominent personalities:

Emilian Galaicu-Păun – poet, prose writer and literary critic, who will address the impact of books in our personal formation;

Vitalie Eșanu – digital creator, will discuss the role of artificial intelligence in promoting culture and literature;

Orest Dabija – member of the Audiovisual Council, will present perspectives on the reader and new media.

  1. Successful experiences and initiatives in promoting reading 12:30 – 13:00

Good practice examples from the National ReadingCentral Program will be presented, such as:

– The project “Booktrailere Competition”, awarded with the First Prize in 2025, presented by Mariana Harjevschi, General Director of the Municipal Library “B.P. Hasdeu”;

– Community Library Initiatives, represented by Nadejda Pădure, Director of the Public Library “Mihail Sadoveanu” in Strășeni;

  1. Official launch of the 9th edition of the National Program “LecturaCentral” 13:00 – 13:30

In the last part of the event, plans and campaigns of the 2026 edition will be presented:

– National Campaign “The Writer at Home”, presented by Vera Osoianu, Deputy Director of the BNRM;

The “September – no day without reading” campaign and the national contests within the PNLC 2026, detailed by Ecaterina Dmitric, Head of Section BNRM;

– Librarians’ skills development programs to promote reading, presented by Ludmila Corghenci, Head of Section BNRM.
