From October 7-13, 2024, Chisinau hosted the Volunteering Week, organized under the slogan “I choose to be a volunteer.” The event aimed to promote young people’s active involvement in the community, giving them the opportunity to participate in various activities and share their volunteering experiences.

For a week, Chisinau Youth Centres organized a variety of events to inspire and motivate young people to get involved.

“We organized the Volunteering Week to promote young volunteers, good practices in volunteering and we managed to organize several activities to promote volunteering, the volunteer card and how important it is for young people to be actively involved in our community”, Petru Grecu, Director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre, told us.

At the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, the program started on October 7 with the Volunteer Marathon, a campaign to highlight the importance of volunteering and to attract as many young people as possible to these actions. On October 8, a creative flashmob took place at the Arc de Triomphe, and on the same day registrations were launched for the second edition of the Municipal Volunteer Festival.

Notable activities included VOLUNTALK on October 9, an event dedicated to sharing best practices in volunteering, where participants discussed the importance and benefits of community involvement. On October 10, young people were able to watch the launch of a vlog called “A day in the life of a VOLUNTEER”, which showcased the authentic experiences of those involved in charitable activities.

The weekend brought special activities such as the Tourist Trolley Tour on October 11 and a vibrant concert on October 13 in the Grand National Assembly Square.

Other Youth Centers in the city were also actively involved. The Botanica Youth Center held a guided tour on the theme “Discover Botanica: Gardens and Nature” and a movie and discussion evening. At the Ciocana Youth Center educational and recreational activities took place, including group discussions about the role of volunteering in young people’s lives.

Volunteering Week emphasized the importance of solidarity and individual contribution to the well-being of the community. Active participation in these events allowed young people not only to learn, but also to have fun, make friends and make a concrete contribution to improving their environment. Organizers hope that this week’s initiatives will encourage more young people to choose volunteering as a way of personal and social development.
